A big third quarter keyed Gowanda to a narrow 16-15 victory over visiting Medina this afternoon in a Class C Division lacrosse game.

Trailing 11-5, Gowanda outscord Medina 7-1 in the decisive third period to pull even as a pair of power play goals keyed the rally.

Gowanda then pulled out the win by scoring a goal with 1:16 remaining as Medina misfired on a shot with two seconds to go.

“I knew it was going to be a dog fight. We just made a few too many mistakes,” said Medina Coach Gordy Luthart. “It’s a learning experience though. It’s a growing process.”

Kyle Barna had five goals, Brett Pecoraro four, Aaron Feltz and Tyler Valley two each and Jake Cotter and Andrew Wigley one each for Medina. Feltz also had three assists while Barna, Pecoraro and Valley each had two.

Medina built up the 11-5 half-time advantage by outscoring Gowanda 6-1 in the second period. Barna and Valley each scored two goals during that stretch as Pecoraro and Wigley each netted one.

Medina is now 1-4 in the division and 2-5 overall.
