Kirsten Gillibrand, a senator from New York, ended her presidential campaign today after failing to qualify with enough donors for the third presidential debate.

The Democratic field is crowded with about 20 candidates.

“Today, I am ending my campaign for president,” Gillibrand announced on Twitter. “I am so proud of this team and all we’ve accomplished. But I think it’s important to know how you can best serve.

“To our supporters: Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Now, let’s go beat Donald Trump and win back the Senate.”

Gillibrand touted herself as a champion for women and families.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued this statement: “Senator Gillibrand is a great talent, a rising star in the Democratic Party and a good friend. The people of New York are fortunate to have her back full time.”
