GCC soccer team wins Carpenter Memorial
BATAVIA – The Genesee Community College women’s soccer team won their first two games of the season over the weekend by defeating Clinton Community College 5-0 Saturday, and then defeating North Country Community College 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Saturday against the Clinton CC Cougars, Genesee would get two quick goals midway through the opening half from Alexa Jordan and Julia Ashworth. Macie Riggs and Diante Scheepers would add to the Cougars lead with late goals in the opening half for a 4-0 lead at intermission. The offense would strike again in the second half as Carleigh Folts found the back of the net.
Madison Papaj and Alexa Salatel split time between the nets for Genesee to record the shutout.
On a day that Genesee Athletics supported the Andie Carpenter Foundation, Genesee wore red in support and tribute Sunday afternoon against North Country Community College and the Cougars came out victorious in the Andie Carpenter Memorial Cup contest. Three goals from freshman Julia Ashworth powered the Cougars offense. Brianna Davis, Macie Riggs, and Michaela Curletta assisted on Ashworth’s three goals on the afternoon. Alexa Jordan added her second goal of the season for Genesee off a Diante Scheepers feed.
Madison Papaj recorded her second consecutive shutout.
