Press Release, GCC

BATAVIA – What would you like Genesee Community College of 2067 to know about the world we live in today?

If you could leave a message for those of the future, what would that message be? GCC and its 50th Anniversary Steering Committee would like the public’s input for memories and messages to include in the special time capsule which will be housed in the new Richard C. Call Arena that is currently under construction.

The Richard C. Call Arena will be completed this summer and within the new facility will be a 50-Year Time Capsule, containing a variety of GCC memorabilia and numerous items of interest. Among the items under consideration include:

  • GCC clothing: T-shirt, hat, hoodie
  • Current media: blu ray disc, jump drive and a cellular “smart phone”
  • Postage stamp
  • Various GCC publications
  • GCC text book
  • An academic course syllabus
  • A currently popular children’s toy
  • Television listing
  • Circular advertisement for new cars, foods and just recent movies

“It will be interesting to see how much of what we use and consider fashionable today is still relevant in 50 years when the College celebrates its century milestone,” said Rick Dudkowski, GCC professor and co-chair of the 50th Anniversary Steering Committee. “This is an exciting opportunity to share a message or a memory with the future!”

The Committee believes the most intriguing and interesting items will be messages from today’s students, faculty, alumni and the general community directed to the same group of people in the year 2067 when the time capsule is opened.

What would you tell the GCC students, faculty, alumni or local citizens 50 years from now? How has GCC impacted your life and the community, what does GCC mean to you?

If you or someone you know is interested in submitting a message for the time capsule, answer one or both questions in 200 words or less with the option to include a photo(s) or other media. All materials must be smaller than 12″ x 12.”

The Anniversary Steering Committee will select the top submissions to be included in the Time Capsule considering space restrictions and the number of submissions. All submissions will be displayed at the Alfred C. O’Connell Library during the week of Convocation, September 10 – 23, 2017. There are three ways to submit Time Capsule materials:

(1) Send through regular mail or drop off the submission to: GCC Marketing Communications Office, D110, One College Road, Batavia, NY 14020.
