GCC in Albion will host business panel on April 24
ALBION – The Albion Campus Center of Genesee Community College welcomes job-minded and career-oriented students for the opportunity to mingle with representatives from local and regional organizations and businesses on April 24 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The “Where Can We Work” event, an extension of the gatherings at the GCC Batavia Campus, will allow students to learn about employment openings, receive career advice as well as tips and tricks from working professionals. Put together by the GCC Career Center, the event provides a networking opportunity with an array of regional business leaders.
“This is new to the Albion Campus Center and we anticipate great interest,” said Jamie Schultz, Career Services Center liaison at GCC. “We’ve gotten great feedback from previous events. The interest in local businesses and organizations continues to grow and participants are finding ‘Where Can We Work’ events to be very beneficial.”
Through its different “Where Can We Work” events, the GCC’s Career Services Center provides students and community members with career resources and employment opportunities, enhancing the relationship between job seekers and area businesses and organizations.
Job seekers at the Albion event will find out about opportunities inclusive of and not limited to: security, family assessment/support work, maintenance, food service and catering, and positions such as recreational specialist, independent living advisor, health services, machine operators, CNA, LPN, and production positions. Also onsite will be potential funding for classroom training or on the job training for individuals considering careers in healthcare, advanced manufacturing, or information technology and more.
The day will begin at 10 a.m. with check-in in the main lobby at the Albion Campus Center, 456 West Ave. Attendees are encouraged to dress formally with resumes in hand. Representatives from each business will provide a brief overview of their organization, job opportunities and career advice. This will be followed by a Q & A session lasting approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Professionals will then break out and attendees can approach their businesses of interest.
