This year’s Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Player of the Year, Angelina Napoleon from Allegany-Limestone, has a Medina connection.
Her mother is Medina High alum Melanie Parada Napoleon who is married to Chris Napoleon.
Angelina, who graduated from Allegany-Limestone last week and has accepted a track scholarship to attend North Carolina State, holds the national record in the 2000 Steeplechase and is ranked No.8 in the world in the event.
She won both the Steeplechase and the 800 at this spring’s New York State Federation championships.
She is the only U.S. female athlete to post a time of under 6:20 in the Steeplechase and a sub 2:04 time in the 800.
Her mother was also an accomplished track athlete at Medina as during her senior year she was a member of the Mustangs 3200 Relay team which captured the Section VI title.
