Gas prices down this week nationally and in NYS with Orleans at $4.296

The average price for regular unleaded gas dropped 9 cents nationally to $4.01 across the United States in the past week to $4.01 today, and is down an average of 6 cents in New York State to $4.16 today. A year ago the average prices were $3.14 nationally and $3.17 in NYS.

Here are the average prices in counties in Western New York:

Allegany, $4.206

The highest price in the state is in Hamilton County at $4.541, while Ulster County has the cheapest at $4.053, according to AAA.

“Crude oil prices are down in the $70s to low-$80s per barrel range amid optimism that the Strait of Hormuz will resume normal operations,” AAA said in a statement. “Currently, half of the states are paying below $4 per gallon on average. Gas prices typically start going down this time of year, as many schools and universities begin fall semesters, and fewer people are taking road trips compared to earlier in the summer.”
