Gananda tops Medina for the “Little Blue Jug”

Gananda downed Medina 19-12 at Vets Park his afternoon in a non league lacrosse game for the Little Blue Jug.

Gananda, which is coached by Medina grad Joe Sidari, scored the last three goals of the second quarter to take the lead for good by an 8-6 margin at the half.

Medina did stay within one at 10-9 in the third period after two goals by Zach Blount and one by Josh Wilson.

However, the Mustangs could not pull even as the Panthers scored the last four goals of the third period to move back out to a 14-9 lead.

Gananda then outpointed Medina 5-3 in the final stanza to lock up the win and take home the Little Blue Jug.

Mitchell Silversmith finished with 5 goals for Medina as Wilson netted 4 and Blount 3.

Silversmith and Wilson each scored two goals in the opening period to put Medina up 4-3.

Goals by Silversmith and Blount kept the Mustangs up 6-5 early in the second period but the Panthers answered with a 3-0 scoring edge to close the half and regain the lead for good at 8-6.

The Panthers attack was led by the trio of Cohyn Reisman (6 goals), Drew Smith (5 goals) and Joseph Chiccino (4 goals).

Medina is now 3-3.

The contest was also an effort to raise funds to fight the ALS disease in the name of Medina grad Jimmer Szatkowski.
