G-R cagers score twin bill sweep over N-O
The Genesee Region League swept past the Niagara-Orleans League in the 20th annual Exceptional Senior basketball doubleheader held this evening at Medina.
The G-R girls rolled to a 68-52 victory in the opener and the boys squad kept the momentum romping to a 105-72 win in the nightcap.
In the girls game, Taylor Gadd (Attica) led the G-R with a game high 19 points as Callie McCulley (Notre Dame) added 11, Macie Riggs (Alexander) 10, Kacey Pearce (Attica) 10, Maddy Bykowski (Alexander) 7, Anna Lewis (Lyndonville) 6, Maddy Marsh (Holley) 3 and Alecia Hinkson (Lyndonville) 2.
Darion Jonathan (Akron) led the N-O with 10 as Elsie Leeds (Akron) added 9, Kirsten Struble (Albion) 7, Gabby Baker (Barker) 7, Maddie Williams (Medina) 6, Lexi Wolck (Albion) 5, Meghan Washington (Roy-Hart) 3, Helena Hill (Akron) 3 and Sarah Cochrane (Medina) 2.
The G-R jumped out to a 24-15 first quarter lead as Pearce had three baskets, Riggs a pair of threes and Gadd two baskets.
The G-R maintained leads of 38-22 at the half and 55-43 at the three-quarter mark.
In the high scoring boys contest, Ryan Davis (Alexander) led the G-R’s balanced attack with 16 as Chris McClinic (Alexander) and Anthony DiQuattro (Byron-Bergen) each added 15, Zach Johnson (Lyndonville) 14, Nate Warters (Kendall) 11, Spencer Misiti (Notre Dame) 9, Devon Henderson (Attica) 7, Nathan Poler (Lyndonville) 6, Dawson Nelson (Attica) 4, Jordan Ludwig (Pembroke) 3, John Rath (Kendall) 3 and Jon Boyce (Elba) 2.
Izaiah Rhim (Medina) and Vincent Montague (Medina) led the N-O with 10 as Charlie Brigham (Roy-Hart), Bryce Pritchard (Albion), Jake Miller (Wilson) and Steve Frerichs (Wilson) each had 9, Charlie Bruning (Roy-Hart) 8 and Lance Krieger (Roy-Hart) and Jon Littere (Wilson) 4.
The G-R jumped out to a 26-15 first period lead as McClinic scored 7, Davis 6 and Warters 5.
The G-R’s advantage soared to 22, 57-35, at the half and to 27, 81-54, at the three-quarter mark. DiQuattro hit three threes and Johnson added three baskets in the second period.
The N-O still hosts a 12-8 lead in both the girls and boys series.
