G-R boys roll past N-O in Senior game

Building up as much as a 21 point lead in the first half, the Genesee Region League went on to defeat the Niagara-Orleans League 73-59 this evening at Albion in the 19th annual Exceptional Senior boys game.

Ryan Moffat (Notre Dame), Reid Miano (Pembroke) and Jamil Marable Jr. (Pembroke) each scored 12 points and Lucas Kohorst (Pembroke) 10 to lead the G-R’s balanced attack. Tylor Ohlson (Oakfield-Alabama) added 7, Mike Donohue (Attica) 6, Erik Scharlau (Alexander) 4, Ryan Douglas (O-A) 3, Ben Pflaumer (Elba) 3, Nico Zambito (Notre Dame) 2 and Patrick Bower (Holley) 2.

Kyle DeVoogel led the N-O with 19 as Max Weber (Newfane) added 13, Jacob Bruning (Roy-Hart) 11, Malik Smith (Barker) 5, Mac Musall (Wilson) 3, Nelson Logan (Akron) 3, Brendan Luthart (Medina) 2, Noah Kindron (Roy-Hart) 2 and Derek Holtz (Akron) 1.

Two threes by Kohorst, along with one each by Moffat, Marable and Pflaumer, sparked the G-R out to a 10 point, 21-11, first period lead.

Keeping rolling, the G-R boosted its advantage to 19, 40-21, at the half as Moffat and Miano both had a two and a three, Kohorst a pair of buckets and Marable a three for the G-R in the second period.

The N-O did close the gap a bit to 10, 47-37, with three minutes to go in the third period after layups by Bruning and Weber followed by back-to-back threes by Musall and Logan but could get no closer.

The G-R answered with one basket by Miano followed by two by Marable to maintain a 13 point, 53-40, advantage at the three-quarter mark.

The G-R then put a firm lock on the win by outscoring the N-O 12-6 over the first four minutes of the final period to go back up by 19, 65-46.  Threes by Ohlson and Miano highlighted that surge.

The N-O lineup also included Jalin Cooper (Medina) and Nate Fox (Wilson) while the G-R roster also included Adam Lund (Wheatland-Chili).

The G-R win cuts the N-O’s series lead to 12-7.
