G-R bows in annual senior softball contest

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Holley pitcher Kassandra Norman and Lyndonvile catcher Miranda Lembcke were batterymates for the Genesee Region League in today’s senior game against the Livingston County League at Genesee Community College.

Two big back-to-back scoring innings keyed the Livingston County League to a 15-5 victory over the Genesee Region League in the annual senior softball game between the conferences this afternoon at Genesee Community College.

Trailing 3-2, Livingston County regained the lead for good by scoring five times in the third inning as a trio of errors plated four of the tallies.

Holley’s Madison Papaj hits a sacrifice fly to drive in a run for the G-R.

The Livingston lead quickly increased to 11-3 after  four run fourth inning highlighted by a two-run single by Andrea Coyle and an RBI single by Meghan Mietlicki, both from Caledonia-Mumford.  Mietlicki also had RBI singles to key two run scoring bursts in both the first and sixth innings.

The G-R took its only lead at 3-2 by scoring 3 times in the second inning on hits by Kylie Schlagenhauf,  Alexa Cory and Serina Velletta, all from Oakfield-Alabama, and Kassandra Norman from Holley and an error.

The G-R’s other two runs came in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Madison Papaj from Holley and an RBI single by Velletta. A triple by Anna Kabel of Notre Dame ignited the uprising which also included hits by Norman and Schlagenhauf.

Norman went the distance in the circle for the G-R, which had only nine players on hand for the contest, registering 6 strikeouts.

The G-R lineup also included Miranda Lembcke from Lyndonville and Emily Keeler and Kimmy Keeler from Notre Dame.

Kylie Schlagenhauf of Oakfield-Alabama is tagged out at third base by Rachel Evans of Perry.
