Coming up big on a big stage, Medina High freshman Brian Fry earned second place honors in the Home Run Derby at the 12th annual World Power Showcase held at Marlins Park in Miami over the recent holiday break.

Fry hit 5 homers in the finals after advancing by belting 13 in the preliminary round.

During the Showcase, Fry, who has been a starter on the Medina varsity baseball team since seventh grade, also competed in the Babe Ruth Classic Game and the Major League Baseball Scout Day in which the players displayed their diamond skills in front of baseball’s top evaluators.

Players were selected to compete in this elite World Showcase event based on their abilities, power, scout references and high school and showcase tournament performance.

Fry plays travel ball with the Titans baseball organization which competes in national level tournaments during the summer.

He is also a starting guard for the Medina varsity basketball squad and this past fall started as a wide receiver and defensive back for the Mustangs football team.
