Jumping out to an early lead, Fredonia went on to defeat Wilson 53-47 for the Section VI Class B girls basketball championship and a berth in the upcoming state playoffs this evening at Buffalo State College.

Hannah Cybart scored a game high 27 points to spark the attack for Fredonia which held leads of 17-10 after one period, 30-25 at the half and 45-31 at the three-quarter mark.

Wilson did rally to outscore Fredonia 16-8 in the final period but the comeback bid fell short.

Rachel Senek scored 25, including 16 of 16 from the free throw line, to lead the way for Wilson as Kayla Neumann added 9.

Wilson advanced to the Class B state qualifier by capturing the B2 title with a 60-33 victory over Medina while Fredonia claimed the B1 crown with a 54-49 win over Depew.

It marked the third straight year that Fredonia has ousted Wilson in sectional competition. The previous two years Fredonia bested Wilson in the B2 semifinals.
