Taking charge in the second quarter, Franklinville went on to defeat Medina 81-53 this afternoon in the Centercourt Classic at Williamsville South.

Franklinville, which went to the state semifinals last year, broke away from an 18-18 first period deadlock outscoring Medina 22-7 in the second quarter to open up a 40-25 advantage at the half.

Issac Kopp scored 15 and Brock Blecha 10 to lead that Panthers’ surge.

The Panthers then hit five of their 13 threes in the third period to highlight a 24-14 run which extended the advantage to 64-39 at the three-quarter mark.

Jalin Cooper scored 23 and Brian Fry 12 to lead Medina which next visits Wilson at 6 p.m. Tuesday in a key Niagara-Orleans League game. The Lakemen (6-3) handed the 7-1 Mustangs their only league loss of the season by a 55-48 margin earlier in the season at Medina.
