Four Tigers place at sectionals

Lyndonville had a quartet of top four place finishers at the Section V Division 2 (small schools) wrestling championships held today at SUNY Brockport.

Dustin Joy placed second at 138 lbs. to lead the way for the Tigers.

Joy dropped an 11-3 decision to Adam Wagner of South Seneca in the title bout after scoring a 7-5 sudden victory decision over Mike Galton of Warsaw in the semifinals. He opened the competition with a pair of decision wins.

Three other Lyndonville wrestlers, Jeff Gress Jr. (120), Tom Follman (152) and Dustin Hinkley (160), also all advanced to the semifinals.

Gress opened the competition with a pin and a major decision win, Follman two pins and Hinkley a technical fall win and a decision victory.

In the semis, Gress was pinned by John Lauricella (LeRoy) in 5:54, Follman lost 6-1 to Mason Compton (Attica) and Hinkley was pinned in 5:05 by Hammond Raes (Midlakes). All three Tiger matmen ended up placing fourth.

Holley’s Nick Shenck also advanced to the semifinals. He dropped a 6-4 decision to Mason Gray (Warsaw) and ended up placing fifth. He scored a pair of pins to open the competition.
