Four teams share Midget League lead

When the dust settled this past week four of the six teams had finished deadlocked for first place to close out the Albion Midget League regular season.

The final regular season contests saw Rotary lose to Sandstone 8-6 and to Carlton 7-2, Barre drop a 17-2 decision to Vets and Cartlon edge past St. Mary’s 10-8.

Those results leave Barre, Sandstone, Carlton and Rotary all tied for first place at 9-6 with Vets at 5-10 and St. Mary’s 4-11.

Seeding for the top four teams for the upcoming playoffs, which begin July 12, was determined by each team’s head-to-head record against the other three teams.

Barre is seeded No. 1 followed by Sandstone, Carlton, Rotary, Vets and St. Mary’s.

Sandstone 8, Rotary 6

In a tight battle, two runs in the third inning, highlighted by a double by Jake Hughson, put Sandstone on top to stay.

Hughson and Kyle Sidari also both had doubles to highlight a four-run first inning. A hit by Nick Martino helped to plate a solo run in the second as did a hit by Caleb Fox in the fifth. Hughson and Martino both finished with 3 hits.

Rotary had a big five run second inning highlighted by two-run homers by Shawn Pelligrino and Marcos Velazquez who both had a pair of hits. Pelligrino also hit a solo homer in the third to pull Rotary within one at 7-6.

Fox also pitched 4 innings striking out 6 and Zach Colacecchi hurled 2.

Carlton 7, Rotary 2

A four run first inning, highlighted by triple by Jayden Allport and an RBI single by Brycie Wilson, sparked Carlton past Rotary. Winning pitcher Damian Lattimer, who struck out 14, added a two-run triple in the second inning.

Carlton 10, St. Mary’s 8

Lattimer was the winning pitcher for Carlton whose offensive attack was led by Nate Olmstead, who hit a home run, triple and double. Wilson also had 2 triples and a single and Allport three hits, including a double.

St. Mary’s was led by Reuben Rivers, who had two home runs and a double, driving in six runs. Jayce Ashton also pitched three scoreless innings in relief and had two singles with an RBI. Nick Andrews also had an RBI single for St. Mary’s.

Vets 17, Barre 2

Highlighting the Vets win was a triple and 4 RBIs by Bobby Dysard. Seth Janus also banged out a double, as Kyle Woolston and Al’tmir Brown each added 3 RBI’s.
Woolston and Maurice Taylor pitched for the win.

Tyler Gibson hit in the runs for Barre.
