MEDINA — Firefighters were dispatched to a house fire on Friday night at Orient Street. All the residents in both apartments were able to safely get out of the house, said Steve Cooley, lieutenant at the Medina Fire Department.

The fire was limited to a second-floor bedroom, but both apartments suffered smoke and water damage, Cooley said in a news release. The Red Cross is assisting with temporary housing for residents of both apartments.

Medina firefighters were on scene two minutes after being dispatched at 10:33 p.m. and reported smoking coming from the eaves and a second-floor window. All occupants of both apartments in the house were outside of the building when firefighters arrived. Lyndonville and Shelby firefighters also responded.

Medina fire investigators have ruled the fire accidental in nature. No firefighters were injured in the response.

Also assisting at the scene were the Medina Police Department, COVA EMS, the East Shelby Fire Department and Orleans County Emergency Management.
