Fillmore tops Kendall for Class D1 soccer title

Avenging a 2-1 loss in last year’s title contest, top seeded Fillmore downed No. 2 Kendall 3-0 this evening in the Section V Class D1 girls soccer playoff championship game at Warsaw.

Breaking away from a scoreless deadlock, Fillmore took charge by scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Ada Sylvester opened the scoring for Fillmore with a goal just 3:40 into the second half off a corner kick opportunity.

Fillmore quickly made it 2-0 when Rachel Hatch soared at 30:11.

Fillmore later netted the clincher when Carlee Miller scored on a header off a corner kick with just 13:12 to go.

Kendall had a 5-2 edge in corner opportunities in the second half but couldn’t capitalize.

The shutout was the ninth straight and the 14th in 19 games this season for Fillmore which advances to the Section V Class D state qualifier game with an 18-0-1 record. In fact, Fillmore goalie Riley Voss and her defensive mates have allowed a total of only 5 goals this season.

Kendall finishes the season at 15-4.
