A two goal scoring burst early in the second half keyed top seeded Fillmore to a 3-0 victory over No. 4 Kendall in the semifinals of the Section V Class D1 boys soccer playoffs this evening at Avon.

Breaking away from a scoreless deadlock, Fillmore scored what proved to be the game winning goal on a rebound shot by Mason Cool just 5:27 into the half.

Fillmore quickly doubled its advantage when Ethan Peet scored just seven minutes later on a misdirection shot at 27:58.

A goal by Mitchell Ward at 15:11 then put a firm lock on the win for Fillmore.

Fillmore also dominated play throughout the first half but were blanked on the scoreboard as Kendall goalie Mason Kuhn anchored a stingy defense by making no less than 8 big saves. The first of those was a nifty leaping save which knocked the ball over the net and another was a stop from close range.

Kendall had its best scoring opportunity in the first two minutes of the second half but couldn’t connect off a nice centering pass.

Less than three minutes later Fillmore found the net for what proved to be the game winning goal and maintained control the rest of the way.

Fillmore will now take a 16-1-1 record into Friday’s D1 title contest against No. 2 Avoca which downed No. 7 Finney 5-1 in the other semifinal.

Kendall finishes the season at 8-7-2.
