Medina’s 14U Fillies team went 2-2 this weekend in the Mel Ott Softball Tournament at Amherst.

The Fillies dropped a 9-4 decision to the Lancaster Heat in the opening round. Marissa Grimes had a single and an RBI triple and Jaclyn Guzdek two singles for Medina.

The Fillies though rebounded to nip the Orchard Park Dazzlers 9-8.

Trailing 6-2, the Fillies pulled even by scoring four times in the third inning on a single by Lexi Neuman, an error, a two-run single by Natalie Bigelow and a two-run triple by Grimes.

The Fillies then scored what proved to be the decisive three runs in the fourth inning highlighted by singles by Kennedy Lampart and Alyssa Beyer.

The Dazzlers though got revenge by downing the Fillies 11-8 in the next round by scoring four runs in the seventh inning off errors.

Lampart had a single and home run, Kaydi Baker three singles, Ryenn Oliver a two-run triple and Guzdek two singles for the Fillies.

However, the Fillies again bounced back to avenge the opening round loss by defeating the Lancaster Heat 8-1.

The Fillies took charge at the outset by scoring five quick runs in the first inning sparked by an RBI double by Bigelow and a two-run single by Lampart.

“The girls really did a tremendous job this weekend. They really came together,” said Coach Dick Foss.
