Fidanza and Wilson earn Wildcard berths to state wrestling championships

Two Orleans wrestlers. Albion’s Cody Wilson and Lyndonville’s Mario Fidanza, both seniors, have earned wildcard berths to the upcoming state championships.
Wilson is the No. 2 wildcard entry at 285 lbs. while Fidanza is the No. 3 wildcard entry at 220 lbs.
Wilson will bring a season record of 26-3 and Fidanza a 23-2 mark into the state championship.
Wilson finished second at the Section VI state qualifier tournament last weekend as did Fidanza at the Section V state qualifier.
This will be Fidanza’s second trip to the state championships and the first for Wilson.
Niagara-Orleans League champion Newfane will have a quartet of seeded wrestlers at the state championships including Aidan Gillings (99), Andrew Lucinski (106), Ryan Nugent (145) and Jaden Heers (285). All four captured Section VI titles last weekend.
The state championship tournament will be held February 28 and 29 at the Times Union Center in Albany.
