Fast start sparks Panthers past Rams

Exploding out to a 20 point first quarter lead, Newfane went on to defeat Roy-Hart 71-54 in a Niagara-Orleans League make-up boys basketball game this evening.
Jeremy Foltz scored a game high 21 points and Zach Snow added 18 to spearhead the Newfane attack as Tyler Oudette added 11, Cade Littman 10, Michael Carmer 6 and Trevor Heschke 5.
Aiden Petrie led Roy-Hart with 18 as Rhett Goodwin had 12, Tom Ragonese 10, Vincent Buscarino and John Conley 5 each and Gavyn Boyle and Jordan Terwilliger 2.
Snow scored 8, Littman 6 and Carmer 4 in the decisive opening quarter to spark the ball hawking Panthers out to a commanding 26-6 lead.
Newfane maintained a 14 point, 37-24, lead at the half as Foltz scored nine in the second period including a three.
Six different players then contributed a basket in the third quarter as Newfane held a 16 point, 52-36 advantage at the three-quarter mark.
Roy-Hart did cut the deficit to nine, 54-45, early in the final period after layups by Buscarino and Petrie followed by a three by Conley but Newfane answered with a three by Oudette and a layup by Foltz to quickly go back up by 13 at 61-48.
Back-to-back rebound baskets by Petrie and Ragonese again pulled Roy-Hart to within nine at 61-52 with just over three minutes to go.
However, the Rams could get no closer as Newfane locked up the win by closing with a 10-2 run including six by Snow.
Newfane is now 2-0 and Roy-Hart 1-1 in N-O action.
N-O competition continues on Friday with Roy-Hart at Barker, Albion at Medina and Akron at Wilson.
