A quick five run first inning scoring burst ignited top seeded Medina to a 9-0 victory over No.8 Akron at Vets Park this evening in a Section VI Class B quarterfinal round playoff game.

Medina will next host No. 4 Roy-Hart in the Class B semifinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

A two-run single by winning pitcher Brody Fry, a two-run error and a wild pitch did the damage in the first inning for Medina. A single by Aidan Papaj sandwiched between a pair of walks loaded the bases to set up the threat.

The Mustangs also had a three-run third inning on RBI singles by Richard Keppler and Vinny Gray and an error.

Fry and Papaj both finished with a pair of hits.

Fry pitched the first five innings allowing 3 hits and striking out 4. Papaj hurled the final two frames giving up no hits and fanning 1.

Defensively the Mustangs got nice catches in the outfield early in the game from both Gray in left and Julian Woodworth in center. Rightfielder Brady Christiaansen also teamed up with Papaj at shortstop for a double play in the fifth inning.

The Mustangs improve to 17-1 overall on the season.

In another Class B quarterfinal, No. 2 Fredonia blanked No. 7 Newfane 10-0.
