Fast start sparks Medina girls past Albion

A big first inning scoring burst keyed Medina to a 7-4 win over host Albion this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League softball game.

Medina erupted for six runs in the decisive opening frame as hits by Abi Neuman and Cora Payne both drove in a pair of runs while base raps by Paige Adkins and Brooklyn Brown each plated one.

Albion did battle back scoring twice in the fifth on a double by Leah Pritchard and a single by Ryan Olles, once in the sixth on an error and once in the seventh on a triple by Brylie Hapeman but could get no closer than the final margin of 7-4.

Brown had three hits on the day for Medina and Hapeman two for Albion.

Lacey Kenward picked up the win in the circle for Medina scattering 7 hits and striking out 5.

Medina is now 5-2 in the league and Albion 1-5.

In the other N-O games, front-running Roy-Hart (7-0) defeated Newfane (0-4) 29-1 by banging out 25 hits and Akron (3-2) downed Barker (1-5) 14-11.

In  Genesee Region League action, Lyndonville blanked Holley 21-0 as Lorelei Dillenbeck hurled a two hitter with 4 strikeouts.

Lyndonville improves to 4-1 in the league and 6-1 overall.

In one other G-R contest, Attica defeated Kendall 16-3.

Albion’s Aly Knaak makes the tag at third base on Medina’s Brooklyn Brown who tried to stretch a double into a triple.
