Kendall uses fast start to win sectional opener

A quick first inning scoring burst ignited No. 4 Kendall to a 9-1 win over visiting No. 13 Perry in the opening round of the Section V Class C2 baseball playoffs this afternoon.
The Eagles erupted for four quick runs in the first inning on a double by Louis Conte, an error, a wild pitch and a single by Jimmie Swift. Conte also had a double in the sixth inning.
Kendall later added four big runs in the fifth frame on a wild pitch, a bunt single by Vince D’Agostino, a fielders choice play and a single by Jacek Kwiatkowski to extend the lead to 8-0. A double by Zach Barrett and two walks also aided the uprising.
Nick Cole and Kwiatkowski shared the pitching duties for Kendall combining for a 3 hitter with 12 strikeouts.
Improving to 13-4, Kendall will next face No. 5 Campbell-Savona in the quarterfinals on Monday at a site to be announced. Campbell-Savona nipped No. 12 Caledonia-Mumford 5-4 to advance.
In a Class C1 opener No. 2 Oakfield-Alabama downed No. 15 Holley 30-2.
