A very familiar foe will provide the opposition as top seeded Lyndonville takes on Genesee Region League rival No. 3 Notre Dame for the Section V Class D1 softball championship at 5 p.m. Thursday at Batavia High School.

Lyndonville defeated Notre Dame twice during the G-R campaign by narrow scores of 9-7 and 10-8 in route to capturing the Division II title.

Both teams advanced to the finals with lopsided semifinal wins as the Lady Tigers blanked No. 5 Alfred-Almond 16-0 and the Irish shutout No. 2 Honeoye 17-0.

Lyndonville, which is 16-4 on the season, is appearing in the sectional finals for the fourth year in a row.

The Lady Tigers captured the D1 title in 2013 with a 6-5 win over Romulus but then lost in the title contest to Arkport in both 2014 and 2015 by scores of 9-2 and 5-4.

The victor in Thursday’s game will then play the D2 winner (either Arkport or Bradford) on Saturday for the Section V Class D berth in the state playoffs.
