Evoy Memorial twin bill to highlight a busy baseball Saturday at Vets Park
The third annual Jeff Evoy Memorial doubleheader will highlight a busy schedule of five baseball games at Medina’s Vets Park on Saturday.
The twin bill will have Albion vs. Pembroke at 2 p.m. foliowed by Wilson vs. Medina at 5 p.m.
The contests honor the memory of Jeff Evoy who during his career as an educator, including as a coach, teacher and administrator, served the Albion, Pembroke and Medina communities. He passed away in 2016 while serving as Medina School District Superintendent. Proceeds will go to the Evoy Memorial Scholarship fund.
The Wilson vs. Medina game is a key one in the Niagara-Orleans League title race as the Mustangs need a win to clinch at least a tie for the title. The Mustangs are currently 9-2 in N-O action while the Lakemen are 5-4.
The other three N-O contests on tap will have Roy-Hart vs. Akron at 9 a.m., Roy-Hart vs. Albion at 11:30 a.m. and Newfane vs. Wilson at 7:30 p.m.
Defending champion Roy-Hart, which is currently at 7-2, needs a pair of wins over Akron and Albion to pull even with Medina at 9-2 atop the N-O standings heading into the Mustangs game against the Lakemen. Ironically, Roy-Hart’s remaining N-O contest will also be against Wilson on Monday.
