Elba man killed in Thruway accident on Tuesday
An Elba resident died Tuesday after a Thruway accident at about 2 p.m. in Cheektowaga.
Edward Torres, 64, of Elba was traveling eastbound behind a tractor trailer that came to an abrupt stop. Torres was unable to stop and subsequently struck the rear of the tractor trailer and was seriously injured, State Police reported today.
Torres was transported by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. Multiple people were treated for minor injuries and one person remains in serious condition, State Police said.
There were about 25 vehicles involved in the Thruway accident. Drivers struggled to see in whiteout conditions.
