Early lead sparks Gators to win over Hawks

Unable to rebound from an early two touchdown deficit, Holley dropped a 38-14 decision to Allegany-Limestone in a non league 8 Man Division football game this afternoon at Holley.
The visiting Gators jumped out to a 16-0 lead as Zane Gleason ran 9 yards for a touchdown and also for the two-point conversion in the first quarter and Vincent LaBella had a big 65 yard TD run in the second quarter as Gavin Straub added the two-point conversion.
Holley did cut the deficit to 16-8 just before halftime on a 2 yard TD run by Hunter Smith and a two-point conversion pass from Destin Kuyal to Mason Moyer but the Hawks would get no closer. A big 44 yard pass completion from Kuyal to Vinny Golisano set up the scoring opportunity.
The backbreaker for Holley came at the outset of the second half. The Hawks tried an onside kick to open the half and the ball bounced high right to Allegany-Limestone’s Caleb Strade who returned the ball to the Holley 8 yard line.
The Gators were quick to capitalize as Matt Burnett ran 2 yards for the touchdown and LaBella hooked up with Strade for the two-point conversion and a 24-8 lead.
Holley answered with a 2 yard TD run by Smith but the two-point conversion attempt failed leaving the Hawks trailing by 10, 24-14. A 37 yard Kuyal to Golisano pass competition highlighted the drive.
The Hawks could not find the endzone again.
The Gators then put a firm lock on the win with a pair of fourth quarter scores on a 21 yard pass from LaBella to Straub and a 65 yard run by Burnett.
Now at 4-2, Holley next visits Wellsville at 7 p.m. Friday for a divisional contest.
