Dynamites win Gehrig Tournament opener
The Dynamites 16U travel baseball team edged the East Coast Pipeline 6-4 in the opening round of the Lou Gehrig Iron Horse Tournament at Amherst Thursday evening.
The Dynamites scored 3 quick runs in the first inning on a walk, an error and a sacrifice bunt by Vinny Gray.
Two runs in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Ryleigh Culver and Nick Bucholtz later provided the margin of victory. Doubles by Evan Poeller and winning pitcher Brody Fry aided that key scoring burst.
East Coast did make the finish exciting by rallying for 2 runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Poeller and Fry both finished with 2 hits as Aiden Romesser, Tyler Kroening and Gavin Heideman each also had a hit for the Dynamites.
Fry pitched five and two-thirds innings giving up 4 hits and striking out 9.
Now at 3-1, the Dynamites will continue competition in the tourney on Saturday.
