Dynamites capture tournament title

The Dynamites 10U travel baseball team, which is comprised of kids from Roy-Hart, Medina and Albion, won their first tournament of the season by downing the Niagara Falls Rapids 9-0 in the championship game of the West Seneca Tourney.

Thomas Russo and Xander Payne combined to throw their second no-hitter of the tournament. Russo pitched four innings, striking out 12 and Payne pitched two innings, striking out 5.

Offensively, the Dynamites had 13 hits. Payne, Russo, Amari Jones and Javon Jones had two hits apiece. Payne’s hits included a triple and a double while Amari Jones and Russo each had a double. Joe Cecchini hit a triple and Jon Conley, Brian Baes, Iverson Poole and Ryan Mettler each had a hit.

The Dynamites beat the Sandlot 10-0 in the playoff game to advance to the championship. Payne pitched all four innings and Amari Jones was stellar at shortstop. Javon Jones had three hits. Payne, Russo and Cecchini all hit triples, Baes a double and Conley, Mettler and Amari Jones one hit each.

The Dynamites won three preliminary games to advance to the playoffs.

They downed Cheektowaga 21-0 in the first game. Amari Jones and Mettler pitched three innings apiece and each struck out 5. Amari Jones, Payne, Baes and Mettler each had three hits. Amari Jones had a home run, Payne a triple and double and Baes a double. Russo, Jay Heideman and Javon Jones had two hits. Russo and Heideman had home runs and Javon Jones two doubles. Poole had a triple.

In the second game the Dynamites beat West Seneca 22-0. Payne and Russo combined for their first no-hitter with Payne pitching three innings, striking out 5 while Russo pitched one and struck out 2. Cecchini played great at 1st base. Payne had four hits including a home run, Conley, Russo and Baes three hits each with Conley having two doubles and Russo a triple. Javon Jones had two hits including a double and Mettler had two hits as well. Amari Jones and Cecchini each had a hit.

Game three was another shutout as the Dynamites defeated Lancaster/Depew 10-0. Amari Jones pitched three innings, striking out 5 and Mettler pitched two, striking out 1. Defensively, a sensational double play was turned in by Conley, Amari Jones and Cecchini. Payne and Amari Jones had two hits while Conley, Javon Jones, Poole and Heideman one each. Conley’s hit was a home run.
