ALBION – The driver of a car suffered a broken right leg after the dashboard caved in on him when his vehicle struck a concrete embankment on Gaines Basin Road.

The vehicle slid off the road across from the Orleans Correctional Facility at about noon and landed in a ditch by the entrance to Sports & Graphics.

Firefighters used a jack to brace the car, and then needed extrication tools to free the driver, who was pinned in the vehicle for about 45 minutes.

The driver was taken by Central Orleans Volunteer Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
