Double plays highlight Tigers win

Turning three double plays along the way, Lyndonville downed visiting Pembroke 5-1 this afternoon in a Genesee Region League baseball game.

Third baseman Mike Wells teamed up with second baseman Cody Bentley and first baseman Eric Neace to turn double plays in both the first and fourth innings.  Shortstop Jacob Hoffee also combined with Neace for another double play in the third.

Nolan Donald makes solid contact at the plate for the Tigers.

The Tigers scored the decisive two runs in the third inning on fielders choice plays off the bats of Neace and Wells. a hit batter and a double by Hoffee set up the opportunity.

Lyndonville added one run in the fifth on a single by Neace and two in the sixth on a walk, a single by Bentley, a passed ball and a fielders choice play.

Zach Johnson went the distance on the mound for the Tigers scattering 5 hits and striking out 7.

Improving to 4-1 in the league and 7-1 overall, Lyndonville next hosts Northstar in a non league game at 4L:30 p.m. Thursday.

Wilson 21, Newfane 1
Wilson improved to 6-0 in Niagara-Orleans League competition with a 21-1 win over rival Newfane.

John Bender had 3 hits and 4 RBIs, Brayden Skobjak 3 hits, Nate Fox 2 doubles and 3 RBIs and Tanner Seeley 4 RBIs to lead the Wilson attack.

Jackson Rotella pitched the first 5 innings striking out 3 for the Lakemen.

The loss drops Newfane to 0-5.
