Core group anchors Tigers mat squad

A trio of defending Section V Class B champions head the veteran group for the Lyndonville wrestling squad which is prepping for the season opening Tonawanda Tournament.

Seniors Dustin Joy, Jeff Gress Jr. and Dustin Hinkley all claimed  Class B titles last year. All three finished the season with over 40 wins.

The Tigers veteran group also includes seniors Frank Cassasquillo and Anthony Bentley Soloman along with junior Reese Ledford, sophomore Chase Stinson and freshman Alex Duran.

“We’ve got a great core group,” said Coach Jeff Gress. “And we are spread out through the various weight classes pretty well.”

Interestinly, because of the Holley/Kendll merger and with Attica’s joining with Bataiva, the Genesee Region League is down to four wrestling teams Lyndonville, Holley/Kendall, Byron-Bergen and Alexander. The Tigers schedule therefore includes no less than four non league meets against Niagara-Orleans League schools including Albion, Roy-Hart, Akron and Wilson.
