The start of 2014 has ushered in a deep freeze, and today brings the prospect of 4 to 8 inches of snow.

The National Weather Services has issued a winter storm warning for Orleans County until 6 a.m. on Friday. A wind chill advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. today until noon Friday, when we’re forecast for another inch of snow.

Today will only see a high of 9 degrees with the wind chill as low at -10, according to the NWS. Friday will only see a high of 5 degrees before it warms up to a high of 26 on Saturday.

Four of the five school districts in the county are closed today and tomorrow because of winter break. Lyndonville opted to schedule school for today and on Friday. The district welcomed students back this morning.
