Coaches select All-County wrestlers

Nine Lyndonville matmen head the annual All-Orleans County wrestling squad as selected by the coaches.

Two state championship participants, senior Tony Recco (120) and sophomore Jeff Gress Jr. (106), head Lyndonville’s contingent which also includes seniors Chris McDonald (138) and Devon Joy (160), junior Tom Follman (152) and sophomores Garren Bayne (113), Dustin Hinkley (132), Dustin Joy (145) and Dawson Joy (182).

Albion is represented by the quintet of senior Aaron Burnside (145), junior Merlin Moyer (195), sophomore Blake Aina (138), freshman Preston Flugel (106) and eighth grader Cade Aina (99).

Medina likewise has placed five grapplers including juniors Kalvin Packer (285), Charles Beach (195) and Joe Velez (120) along with sophomores Ryan Kruger (220) and Brennen Callara (113).

Holley is represented by the quartet of seniors Brandon Morrell (113), Martin Beadle (145), Lucas Silvis (220) and junior Nick Shenck (126).

Kendall junior Paul Urquhart (106) rounds out the first team.

Recco, who went 48-5 on the season, captured both Class B and Section V championships and went on to place sixth at the state tournament.

Gress, who compiled a 46-6 record, won a Class B title and placed second at the Section V championships to earn his first trip to the states.

McDonald, who was 40-10, won a Class B title and placed fifth at the Section V championships.

Dustin Joy, who placed second at both the Class B and Section V championships, went 41-10 on the season.

Follman, who captured a Class B title, placed sixth at the Section V championships to go 37-12 on the season.

Devon Joy, who was 40-9, won a Class B title and placed sixth at the Section V championships.

Bayne, who placed second at the Class B championships, went 33-16 on the season.

Hinkley, who was 37-14, placed third at the Class B championship.

Dawson Joy, who placed fourth at the Class B championship went 23-20 on the season.

Cade Aina, who went 23-6 on the season, captured both Niagara-Orleans League and Section VI Class B championships.

Flugel, who won an N-O title and placed third at the Class B championship, went 24-7.

Blake Aina, who went 24-9, won an N-O title and took fourth place at the Class B championship.

Burnside, who placed second at the N-O championships and third at Class B, went 19-11.

Moyer, who placed second at the N-O championships and fourth at Class B, was 17-14 on the season.

Callara, who went 22-3, won an N-O title, placed second at the Class C championships and third at the Section VI championships.

Velez, who earned an N-O title and placed fourth at the Class C championship, went 23-13.

Kruger, who went 19-11, placed third at the N-O and fourth at the Class C championship.

Packer placed second at the N-O tournament and won a Class C title finishing the season at 15-13.

Beach went 30-5 on the season.

Beadle, who placed second at the Class BB championship and third at the Section V championship went 43-2 on the season to finish with a career record of 193-51.

Silvis, who likewise placed second at Class BB and third at the Section V championships, went 38-4 to finish with a career mark of 109-27.

Morrell, who placed fifth at the Class BB championship, went 35-12 to finish with a career record of 86-37.

Shenck, who placed fourth at the Class BB championship, went 35-12 to improve his career mark to 108-45.

Urquhart, who placed fourth at the Class B championship, went 28-14 on the season.

Several other wrestlers earned Honorable Mention on the All-County team including Riley Reis and Jeremy Browe from Kendall, Patrick Purtell, Zach Day and Austen Vroman from Holley along with Cody Crane, Nick Doberstein, Bobby Geiger and Hunter Kruger from Medina.
