Cleve Hill Eagles hand Mustangs first loss

Defense was the name of the game as host Cleveland Hill posted a narrow 8-6 non league victory to snap Medina/Lyndonville’s season opening five game winning streak.

Cleve Hill, whose defense limited Medina/Lyndonville to just 70 yards in offense, including a minus 5 rushing, scored in the first quarter on a 3 yard touchdown run by Tyler Phillips and a two-point conversion pass by running back Matt Elridge.

The Mustangs got on the scoreboard in the second quarter as quarterback Izaiah Rhim hooked up with Jalin Cooper for a 19 yard touchdown pass. However, the run attempt for the game tying two-point conversion fail.

The Mustangs scoring opportunity was set up when Dawson Joy blocked an Eagles punt and Tyler Howard made the recovery.

Medina/Lyndonville did drive to the Cleve Hill 17 in the fourth quarter but was stopped on downs and the Eagles offense held the ball for the final six minutes.

Howard led the Mustangs in tackles with 13 as Joy and Eric Neace both had 10. Joy also had a fumble recovery.

Medina next hosts rival Albion at 7:30 p.m. Friday to close out the B East Division season.
Depew 26, Barker/Roy-Hart 12
Quarterback Jon Wolf threw 4 touchdown passes, including two in the first quarter and one each in the second and third periods, to spark Depew to a 26-12 win over Barker/Roy-Hart at Barker.

Barker/Roy-Hart scored on a 1 yard touchdown run by Eddie Wasnock in the third quarter and an 11 yard scoring pass from quarterback Jake Bruning to Wasnock in the final stanza.

Eric Fitch led Barker/Roy-Hart in tackles with 11 as Colton Bohall had 6 and Nick Fazzolari 4. Fazzolari also had a fumble recovery and Shawn Callaghan an interception.

Depew is now 2-3 in the division and 2-4 overall while Barker/Roy-Hart is 0-4, 2-4.
