Two early runs proved to be just enough as No. 4 seed Cleveland Hill nipped No. 10 Barker 2-0 this afternoon in the Section VI Class C softball championship game at Gowanda.

The contest was a classic pitchers dual as Gowanda’s Taylor Betz gave up only 1 hit and struck out 7 and Barker’s Erika Moeller allowed just 2 hits and struck out 8.

Cleve Hill scored the game’s only 2 runs in the second inning on a walk, a single and a pair of errors.

Sabrina Harris had Barker’s lone hit with a single in the sixth inning. The Lady Raiders had only two other baserunners on the day as both reached on errors.

“It was a fantastic game but we just couldn’t get the bats going,” said Barker Coach Bill Moeller.

The 2 runs were the only ones allowed in four playoff games by Barker which had blanked Holland 8-0, Cassadaga Valley 2-0 and Chautauqua Lake 1-0 to advance to the title contest.
