Clarendon’s preliminary town budget shows tax rate drop
CLARENDON – The town’s preliminary budget for 2017 shows a drop in the tax rate. The 2017 tax rate in the preliminary budget is $4.62, down from a rate of $4.79 in 2016. That’s a decline of 3.64 percent.
Members of the Clarendon Town Board last week adopted the preliminary budget. A public hearing on the budget was held prior to the board’s regular monthly meeting. No one from the public spoke at the hearing.
Total town appropriations – General Fund town-wide and Highway Fund town-wide – are $1,412,933.50, with appropriated fund balance totaling $120,000.
Total special districts appropriations are $791,358.55. That figure includes water districts 1 through 11, the Water District 9 Extension, and the Clarendon Fire Department which receives an appropriation of $171,634.30. With total town and total special districts combined, the grand total preliminary budget for 2017 is $2.2 million.
The total allotted for council person salaries (4) holds steady at $14,925.00 ($3,731.25 each), and the supervisor’s salary also remains the same at $10,200.00.
The Town Clerk salary rises two percent to $38,097 from $37,350, as does the Highway Superintendent salary – from $58,780 to $59,956.
