Carlton and Sandstone win semifinals in Albion Midget League playoffs

Carlton downed defending champion Barre 12-6 and Sandstone defeated St. Mary’s 13-2 this evening in the semifinals of the Albion Midget League playoffs.

Carlton and Sandstone will meet for the championship at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Midget League Field.

Leading by a narrow 6-5 margin, Carlton pulled away for good as a two-run triple by Caidyn Wilson highlighted a three-run fourth inning and Finn McCue followed up with a three-run homer in the fifth.

McCue also hit a solo homer in the first inning and Drew Boyce had a two-run double in the second to help Carlton jump out to an early 6-3 lead.

Nathan Gibson had a two-run single in the first inning for Barre which added three runs in the third to cut the deficit to 6-5 but could get no closer.

Sandstone jumped out to an early 7-2 lead over St. Mary’ as a leadoff triple by Elliot Trapiss, a double by Cencere Lowe and a three-run home run by Emma Shay keyed a four-run first inning. A two-run triple by Seth Krenning and an RBI single by Lowe highlighted a three-run second.

Sandstone later scored twice in the fourth as Makyell Walker had a double and twice in the fifth as Lowe had a double.

Lowe and Trapiss both finished with 4 hits and Krenning 3.
