Carlton and Sandstone score wins to open Albion Midget League playoffs

Carlton and Sandstone both scored victories by nearly identical margins Tuesday evening to open the Albion Midget League playoffs.

Carlton defeated Rotary 16-2 at the Midget League Field and Sandstone downed Vets 15-2 at Sandstone Park.

Carlton will next visit undefeated (8-0) Barre and Sandstone will take on St. Mary’s at Sandstone Park in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Midget League Field.

Finn McCue spearheaded the Carlton offense with three home runs, a triple and a total of 11 runs batted in.

Caidyn Wilson also banged out 4 hits for Carlton, including a double and triple, as Noah Kowalski chipped in with a single and double.

Cencere Lowe had 3 hits, including a three-run double to key an eight run second inning, and Drew Pritchard had a three-run triple in the fifth frame to lead Sandstone at the plate.

Hunter Lonnen had a two-run homer for Vets in the first inning.
