Cal-Mum rallies past Albion in tourney final

CHILI – Caledonia-Mumford put together a big fourth quarter rally to defeat Albion 47-40 this evening in the championship game of the Wheatland-Chili girls basketball tournament.

Trailing by 10, 33-23, at the three-quarter mark, Cal-Mum rallied to outscore Albion 24-7 in the decisive fourth period to claim the win and the tourney title.

Justice Nauden and Chanyce Powell both scored 10 points for Albion. Savannah Allen added 6, Jessica Raglan 5, Sarah Metzler 4, Mandi Covis 3 and Emily Blanchard 2 for the Purple Eagles.

Nauden and Metzler were both named to the All-Tournament team.

Powell scored eight points in the first half as Albion grabbed leads of 12-5 after one period and 22-10 at the half.

Now at 2-4, Albion next visits Akron on Jan. 3 for a Niagara-Orleans League make-up game.
