In a schedule makers dream division season ending battle of the unbeatens, Medina will visit Newfane at 7 p.m. Thursday in a key contest to determine the C North Division champion.
Medina, which has captured the C North title each of the last three years, and Newfane, which is seeking its first division championship since 2019 (B4 Division champs), are both 5-0 in C North competition and 6-0 overall.
“We are looking forward to what should be a great high school game,” said Medina Coach Eric Valley. ” Newfane has been impressive all season. They have great team speed and athleticism, and that shows in all 3 phases of the game. Coach Nagel and staff have done a fantastic job week in and week out preparing this team. Defensively they swarm to the football and on offense they have the ability to run and pass, and extend plays which will put a strain on any defense. For us to be successful, we need to play very physically upfront, eliminate turnovers and mistakes and try to control the football. We just need to stay focused on our jobs and take the game one play at a time.”
Newfane is led offensively by senior quarterback Nate Snow who has completed 93 of 138 passes for 1,243 yards and 12 touchdowns. His favorite receiver has been senior Ben Dickinson who has caught 40 passes for 613 yards and 5 touchdowns. Isaiah Gerstung also has 3 TD receptions. Snow has also rushed for a team leading 372 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Medina offensively has had running back Christian Moss rush for 629 yards and 8 touchdowns and quarterback Julian Woodworth 255 yards and 6 TDs. Woodworth has also completed 22 of 34 passes for 357 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Both teams have really been challenged only once and that was by Akron on both occasions. Medina had to turn back a strong second half Akron comeback bid to claim a 29-21 win. Newfane led Akron by a narrow 12-7 margin after three quarters but then scored twice in the final stanza for a 26-7 win.
Medina, which downed Newfane 21-7 last year, holds a 46-10-2 lead in the all-time series which began in 1954.
The Mustangs and Panthers will then close out the regular season with interdivisional rivalry games on October 20. Medina will host Albion and Newfane will visit Wilson.
Roy-Hart/Barker will also be in C North Division action Thursday as the Bulls host Cleveland Hill at 7 p.m.
The Bulls are 1-3 in the division and 2-4 overall while the Golden Eagles are 0-4, 1-5.
C North: Medina 5-0, 6-0; Newfane 5-0, 6-0; Eden 3-2, 4-2; Akron 2-2, 2-4; Roy-Hart/Barker 1-3, 2-4; Cleve Hill 0-4, 1-5; JFK 0-5, 0-6
