Bulldogs down Mustangs JVs in opener

The Medina Mustangs JV football team dropped their opener to Burgard on Saturday afternoon by a score of 32-6.

Burgard was able to build a 6-0 lead in the first quarter and extend it to 20-0 at halftime, including a long pass completion for a touchdown as the half expired.

The Bulldogs then tacked on two more touchdowns in the third quarter. The first was off of a fumble return on the opening kickoff of the second half. Then, on the ensuing possession a tipped pass led to an interception return for a touchdown, stretching the Burgard lead to 32-0.

The Mustangs were able to get some offense going in the fourth quarter, coming up with a 14 yard touchdown pass from Brian Fry to Tyler Chinn to put the Mustangs on the scoreboard. The touchdown pass was set up by a series of runs by Bobby Geiger.

Fry finished with 91 passing yards on the day, while Geiger accounted for 55 yards on the ground.

Defensively, the Mustangs did force four turnovers, all by fumble recoveries. Geiger, Mario Fidanza, Emmanual Taylor, and Tasker Taylor each came up with a fumble recovery.

The Mustangs are next in action on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Tonawanda.
