Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Kendall and Holley will renew their boys soccer rivalry Monday night in a key Genesee Region League game at Holley. Here Holley’s Gabe Mendoza, left, works to control the ball against Kendall’s Mookie Nauden during the earlier season meeting between the teams at Kendall which was won by the Eagles 1-0.

Key games invoving several local teams including Medina/Lyndonville and rivals Kendall and Holley will likely decide the Niagara-Orleans League and Genesee Region League boys soccer champions this week.

Medina/Lyndonville, which is at 7-2, holds a one game lead over Newfane (6-3), Wilson (6-3) and Akron (5-3). The Mustangs will visit Newfane on Wednesday and host Akron on Saturday needing to win both games to lock up the title. Medina’s final N-O game wll be at Roy-Hart on Oct. 16. The Mustangs two league losses have been to Newfane (3-1) and Akron (1-0).

The Kendall boys squad, which leads the G-R with a 7-0-1 record, can put a lock on the title with a win either at rival Holley (4-2-1) on Monday or at Attica (1-6) on Wednesday. The Eagles nipped Holley 1-0 and downed Attica 4-0 earlier in the season.

The Kendall girls, now at 10-1, will look to maintain a hold on the G-R lead in games against Attica at home on Tuesday and at Alexander on Saturday.

On the gridiron, Albion will host Bennett on Friday night in a key battle for the B North Division lead. Bennett (4-0, 5-0) took over sole possession of first place on Saturday by downing City of Buffalo rival Burgard (3-1, 4-1) 20-12. Albion is also at 3-1 in the division (4-1 overall) after thumping Lew-Port 40-8 as the Purple Eagles seek a win to vault into a share of the division lead.

Medina, which is at 2-2 (3-2 overall), will visit Lew-Port (2-3, 2-3) Friday seeking a win to stay in the hunt for a sectional playoff berth.
