Blue Jays score narrow win to gain semifinals

Pushing across a run in the final inning, the Somerset Blue Jays nipped the Medina Indians 6-5 Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Minor Division baseball playoffs.

Breaking away from a 5-5 deadlock, the Jays scored the game winner in the top of the sixth inning as Grayson Prynn singled and came home on a double by Drew LaGreca.

Prynn had 3 hits on the day including a double as LaGreca, Gayvon Heigle and Rory Harvey each had 2.

The Indans had tied the contest at 5-5 in the third inning on an error.

Earlier, the Jays jumped out to leads of 3-0 and 5-4.

The Jays scored 3 quick runs in the first inning as Heigle, Prynn, LaGreca and Harvey all singled.

The Indians answered with 4 in the home half of the first but the Jays moved back on top at 5-4 with 2 in the third as Prynn doubled and Heigle, Kian Lawson and Harvey singled.

The Blue Jays will next face the Medina Orioles in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Monday at Somerset. The Orioles edged the Somerset Yankees 2-0 in the quarterfinals.

The other quarterfinals saw the Roy-Hart Yankees down the Medina A’s 3-1 and the Lyndonville Twins top the Medina Pirates 7-4.
