Blue Devils down Purple Eagles
Falling behind by 13 in the first quarter, Albion dropped a 58-38 decision to Batavia this evening in the opening round of the Batavia Lions Club Holiday Shoot-Out at Genesee Community College.
Tee Sean Ayala scored 15, on five threes, and Malachi Chenault 11 to lead the way for Batavia which will now face University Prep of Rochester in the championship game at 8 p.m. Wednesday. U. Prep romped past Notre Dame 80-36 in the other semifinal.
Tommy Mattison scored a game high 19 points, including five threes, for Albion which will take on Notre Dame in the consolation contest at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Tyler Rotoli added 5, Evan Pappalardo 4, Kory Reynolds and Chase Hall 3 and Manwell Taylor and Jacob Buzard 2 for the Purple Eagles.

Batavia jumped out to a 20-7 first period lead as Jake Schrider scored three baskets, Ayala hit two threes and Alex Canty one.
The Blue Devils upped the advantage to 18, 33-15, at the half.
Albion did close the gap a bit to 13 twice in the third period, first at 35-22 as Mattison scored on a layup off a steal and then on a thee, and again at 42-29 after a three by Hall.
However, Batavia maintained an 18 point, 47-29, advantage at the three-quarter mark after a three at the buzzer by Ayala.
The Blue Devils led by as many as 23, 58-35, down the stretch.
