Block ‘M’ honors Mustang athletes

Contributed Photo – The award winners at Wednesday’s annual Medina High Block ‘M’ Banquet included Emma Ambrose, Anna Blount, Allison Bensley, Alyssa Beyer, Nicole Blount, Andrea Toussaint, Martha Gardner, Courtney Bailey, Emma Gardner, Kristian Snyder, Jalin Cooper, Adam Cotter, Austin Owens, Jason Hellwig, Max Owens, Kyle Herman, Nick Doberstein, Austin Heil, Devonte Howard, Aaron Feltz, Brennan Zinkievich, Amanda McCauley and Greg Husung.

The presentation of a number of special awards highlighted the annual Medina High Block ‘M’ Banquet which was held Wednesday evening at White Birch.

Seniors Emma Ambrose and Jason Hellwig received the Babe Ruth Award while freshmen Alyssa Beyer and Jalin Cooper were the recipients of the Russell Houserman Award.

Ambrose and Hellwig also earned the Niagara-Orleans League Scholar-Athlete Scholarship.

Hellwig also received the Larry Decker Scholarship while Aaron Feltz was the recipient of the Dave Boice and Bill Ossont Scholarship.

Andrea Toussaint received the Charlene Schrader Award, Nick Doberstein the Gary Gross Memorial Award and Austin Owens and Maxwell Owens the Beverly Sargent Memorial Award. They are the grandsons of Bev Sargent.

The Pony Awards were presented to the following student/athletes: Austin Heil (cross-country and swimming), Jason Hellwig (football), Courtney Bailey (cheerleading), Anna Blount (field hockey), Greg Husung (soccer), Emma Gardner (soccer), Nicole Blount (volleyball), Gage Masters (golf), Amanda McCauley (swimming), Brennan Zinkievich (basketball), Allison Bensley (basketball), Charles Beach (wrestling), Matt Cochrane (track), Martha Gardner (track), Kristian Snyder (tennis), Kyle Herman (baseball), Aaron Feltz (lacrosse) and Emma Ambrose (softball).
