Big quarter sparks Mustangs past Bulldogs
A big second quarter scoring edge keyed Medina to a 73-58 win over visiting Barker this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball game.
Up 19-13 at the end of the first quarter, the Mustangs erupted for a big 24-6 scoring surge in the second period to open up s 24 point, 43-29, advantage at the half. Jerrell Neely had 8 points, Avion Johnson two threes and Preston Woodworth one three to lead that uprising.
Keeping the momentum, the Mustangs extended the advantage to as much as 32, 53-21, midway through the third period after threes by Woodworth and Cole Callard.
The Mustangs led by 19, 53-34, at the three-quarter mark and the closest the Bulldogs could get down the stretch was 14 at 63-49.
In the opening period, Woodworth scored 7 and Nealy 6 for the Mustangs while Owen Harris had 9 for the Bulldogs.
Woodworth finished with a game high 26, including six threes, and Nealy 18 to lead the Mustangs. Christian Moss added 7, Jayzon Wills and Johnson 6, Callard 5, Kolton Fletcher 3 and Decklan Meiers 2.
Harris finished with 21 for the Bulldogs as Logan Murrell added 9, Donovan Hefferon 8, Maico Vazquez 7. Michael Kalynycz 4 and Carson Schwab and Jackson Prynn 2 each.
Medina is now 4-1 and Barker 1-4 in N-O action.
The Mustangs next visit 4-1 Wilson in a key contest Friday while the Bulldogs host Roy-Hart that evening.
