One big scoring inning powered Medina a 9-4 victory over Akron in a Niagara-Orleans League baseball game at Vets Park this morning.

Limited to just one hit through the first four innings and trailing 1-0, Medina exploded for 9 runs in the decisive fifth frame.

A two-run triple by Brian Fry, a two-run single by Nate Sherman, an RBI double by Brett Riemer and a run producing suicide squeeze play by Alex Allis highlighted the uprising as an error and a bases loaded walk plated the other two runs.

Akron did answer back with 3 runs in the sixth but the Medina defense turned a clutch inning ending double play from Fry at shortstop to Zach Fike at first to get out of the jam.

Trevor Luthart pitched the first five inning for the Mustangs striking out 4.  Chris Goyette hurled the final two frames striking out the side in the seventh.

Medina is now 4-7 and Akron 3-7 in N-O competition.
